About

The history of the beginning of the New York Stock Exchange is a fascinating one. Begun in 1792 by 24 merchants who were displeased with the state of securities trading at the time as well as the priciples of the auctioneers who were the main competitors for the merchants, they created the Buttonwood Agreement, helping to begin the establishment of the New York Stock Exchange, which eventually took up its residence at 11 Wall Street.
